Asking and telling the time:

¿Qué hora es? — What time is it?
Es la una. — It's one o'clock.
Son las dos. — It's two o'clock.
Son las tres y media. — It's half past three.
Son las cuatro menos cuarto. — It's quarter to four.

Time expressions:

por la mañana — in the morning
por la tarde — in the afternoon
por la noche — at night

Grammar tip

Es vs Son: Use es only for one o'clock (Es la una). Use son for all other hours (Son las dos, las tres).
