Express what you don't do, don't have, or never do.
Basic negation — ne...pas:
Je ne parle pas anglais. — I don't speak English.
Structure: subject + ne + verb + pas
Other negation forms:
In spoken French: The ne is often dropped:
Je parle pas anglais. (informal speech)
Negative with articles: After negation, use de instead of un/une/du/de la/des:
J'ai un chien. → Je n'ai pas de chien.

Position in compound tenses: In passé composé, ne...pas wraps around the auxiliary: Je n'ai pas mangé (I didn't eat). But ne...personne and ne...que wrap around the whole phrase: Je n'ai vu personne (I didn't see anyone).
